5. GOVERNOR's MANSION, initiated by governor Ljudevit Batthyány, constructed in high rennaisance style by Alajos Hauszmann, the renowned architect who worked on the king's palace in Budapest, was completed in 1896.
It was the residence of a number of town's rulers until after the second world war, when it became Rijeka's maritime history museum. It harbours a wealth of art and artifacts, certainly worth a visit.




6. THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

is situated on the Vladimir Nazor boulevard. The museum boasts a collection of over 63 000 choice paleolithic, botanical and herbal artifacts. In addition there are 600 examples of flora, fauna and minerals from the Kvarner region.





7. HISTORY ARCHIVES
are located in the residence previously belonging to Franz Josef's cousin, general Josip of Habsburg. After a disagreement with the emperor, the general moved to Rijeka and initiated the reconstrucion of an old bulding with the help of local architect Rafael Culotti. Whilst in Rijeka he also established an exotic garden.






8. THE TOWN COURT is a building of enormous expanse. It was erected in 1904 atop the ancient town walls, the remains of which are still visible today. It was built according to plans of Stigler, an architect from Budapest, Hungary.
