...Markez; Radosovic

Posted by: Dennie Markez on December 12, 2000 - Markez/Radosovic

Name: Markez; Radosovic
Location: Agram (Zagreb)

My grandparents immigrated to the United States in 1912-1913.

My grandfather (John) born on April 24, 1887 in Agram, came here on Feb.9, 1912 under the name Luka Vlasic through Trieste, Italy on the SS Oceania.
My grandmother (Evka) also born in Agram - on May 24 1885, came here on Nov. 1, 1913 (not sure of the ship, but an aunt believes it was a freighter named Milikan.)
She came with a baby Agnes.

They were married on Jan. 16, 1911 in Agram, Jugoslavia (spelled from his petition for
citizenship). Their last residence was Agram. They came in through NY, and settled in Chicago Illinois. He worked for the Illinois Central Rail Road.

This is all I know of my Markez branch, and even less of the Radosovic one. I can't even seem to find a place called Agram (or Argram) Can anybody help me?

Webmistress' comment

"Agram" is the ancient germanic name for Zagreb, still being used in some parts of Germany

Name 1: Nicholas Markusic
Name 2: Barbara Fuderich

Nicholas Markusic b.1862, Austria (Zumberak?) married Barbara Fuderich b.1869 in 1886. Children Mary b.1887, Ann b. 1888, twins Nicholas & Matthew b. August 16, 1889 all born in Austria. Nicholas & Matthew came to America, Matthew returned to Austria.

Joseph, Louis, Peter, Ted, & Leonard all born in America. We are relatives of Louis from Saginaw, Michigan. Nicholas immigrated to Lake Linden, MI in 1889-1890. Barbara arrived in 1892. Why the twins stayed in Austria for many years is a mystery. Nicholas, the son, married Elinor (Eleanor) they moved to the Detroit area after living in Gogebic county Michigan in the city of Bessemer pr. the 1920 census. Their children were Mercedes, and Harriett.

If you search anywhere, you realize no one is looking for the Markusics' ANYWHERE!! Any help with any of these relatives would be appreciated! Are you out there??
