...Celovic

Posted by: Maria Hitchcock on June 17, 2000

Name: Stefan Celovic
Location: Vinkovci

Engineer in Vincovci during 1920's. Married Maria (born Vienna). Had four children, Anton, Josip, Stefan and Katerina. Anton and Josip killed during World War II. Katerina disappeared.

I am searching for Katerina or any other living relatives. She could be still alive. I don't know where to start. I will be visiting Croatia in late August/early September. Is there an office in Zagreb I could visit? Unfortunately I don't speak any Croatian.

I am not sure about how common a name "Celovic" is, but my grandfather's last name is "Chelovich" modified from "Celovic" when he came to America. My name is Stefan. It just seemed like a weird coincident so i wanted to let you know.

Churches are always a good start to find out about one's roots - not having any details about your birthplace or your parents, would suggest you try to get some basic info from the church in Varazdin
