A favourite venue for poets and artists, Vrbnik has always been a
romantic attraction.
The entire settlement is one historic monument, the best known croatian castle-town,
packed with glagolitic messages; it was Krk's centre for glagolitic scholars for
many centuries.
One will find here the Statute of Vrbnik dating from 1388, law books, and the famous
Vitezovic library which contains extremely valuable books. Amongst the collection
of some 15.000 books there is also Kocher's atlas from 1718, which is one of the
only two that still exist. Vrbnik is an attractive excursion destination, and the
numerous bays surrounding it are becoming ever more popular. |
