...Ostoich

Posted by: Kathryn O'Neill on June 9, 2002

Name: Peter George Ostoich
Location: Croatia

I'm searching for information about my great-grandfather. I know he was born in 1897 in Croatia and came to the U.S. alone when he was about 16 years old. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen on May 31, 1929. He was married to Mary Mistrik sometime around 1925/1926 and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsyvlania.
They had two children: William and Alice. He died in Pittsburgh in 1980.

Any information about Peter or his family in Croatia (which I have none of) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Name: Ovcaric
Location: Croatia (Vini Vrh)

Milan Ovcaric, born 16th-Oct-1932 in Lucane, Brinje, Croatia; siblings: Vera and Marko, Marko passed away at age 3, Vera married Dusan Smiljanic. Milan left Croatia in 1953, married Dominka (maiden name) Dumancic, born Kupres 23-Mar-1933. Immigrated to Australia from Austria Feb-1956, with daughter Gordana born Linz Austria 28th-August-1953, settled in Melbourne, son Davorin John born 22-Sept-1965.

Apart from the information detailed above, the only information available about the Ovcaric clan is that the parents of Milan were Maria (maiden name Sertic) and Marko, who passed away aged 23 while Milan was a small child. Marko's sister (name unknown) married into another Ovcaric clan, little else is known as town records where destroyed by invading communist forces at the end of WW2. A number of Ovcaric clan have also been traced entering Ellis Island in N.Y. circa 1913, all from Lucane also.

The Markovcic family moved to US in early 1900's from Gerovo and another small neighboring village. Along with them, Ozbolt, Volf, and Jeselnik families moved here as well. We are all located in Georgia and my great aunt (Annie Markovcic Ozbolt) married an Ozbolt. I would be glad to confer more with you.
